Originally requested by Montana Sapphire cutters as a special order, the ZINCPLUS + 5T consists of an outer prepolish zone of Zinc Plus and an inner polishing zone of BA5T™, the premium silver-containing polishing alloy.
Zinc Plus is a proven aggressive prepolisher when used with 3K or 8 K diamond.
The BA5T material is proven in thousands of laps as a fast superior polishing lap and excels on harder stones with 60K or 100K diamond.
The benefits of dual zone laps are:
1: No adjustments are needed from prepolish to polishing. The stone is being prepolished and polished on the same plane, so the stone is being polished in perfect register with the prepolished facets. No time is wasted in trying to remove material from the leading or trailing edges or heel or toe of the stone form one surface to the other.
2: “But contamination”. Wire the stone and dop clean when switching to polish. The fluid film always flows outward form the polishing zone and does not harm the coarser prepolish zone.
3: There are many old machines out in use that are not as tight as they once were. Some are sixty years old. These do not repeat settings very well. A dual zone lap is the only way of eliminating these issues.
